Description: This module’s assignment was how can understanding the standards and completing the pre-comp verification help design my Field Experience plan and how can I use the design of my ePortfolio help other understand how to integrate technology more in the classroom as well as my building and my district.

Impact: When I completed my pre-comp verification, I came to the realization that I had to “stretch” to find the required artifacts. Although I use technology a great deal in my classroom, my focus has become very limited to the use of the Navigator. I have not expanded much outside its realm. Now, as I work on my ePortfolio Alignment Document, I have come to the realization even more that my realm needs to not only expand further than the TI Navigator, but outside of my classroom as well. I need to explore new ways incorporate technology for my students as well as help educate the teachers in my building as well as my district on the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers.

Intent: I came to the realization that one thing I need to do to help build my ePortfolio is to keep a camera in my classroom at all times. This week, on the last day of classes before spring break I did a Navigator activity that simulates a round of golf. I put a golf green on the screen with two points plotted. The students were given the coordinates of the two points and were required to find the equations of the line that would connect the two points. When this was accomplished, they were to send me the equation via their calculators. The line of the equation would appear on the screen. If the line connected the two points, they “sunk” the putt and would earn a point. During the activity, I looked around the classroom and saw my students deeply engaged. It was then I realized that I needed a camera to document this.

The Alignment document has given me ideas for proposals for staff development for the next school year. This field experience class has made me aware that there is a need in my building to educate our staff on the ISTE National Educational Technology Standards for Teachers, especially Social, Ethical, Legal, and Human Issues. I realized that many teachers in our building have the students research various subjects and have them print off pictures from websites without properly referencing them. This gave me an idea to conduct a professional development next year on the proper way to have students’ reference photographs from a website.

I am also going offer my Navigator “expertise” to the staff of my building at the beginning of the year for baseline data testing. After the students take the baseline data test at the beginning of the school year, they will enter their answers into a “Learn Check” Document. I will then print out a report for the teacher to aid them in analyzing the data and giving them a more accurate baseline.
